Will humankind awake from spiritual oblivion, or will Providence intervene? The human drama draws near to its climax upon earth and it is now time to turn our attention inward; for in our haste for technological progress and material gain, we have forgotten who, and indeed what we are. A battle rages for our very souls. A deceptive haze abounds upon the earth as a result of this battle, thus blinding man of his true origins and destiny. By ignoring the warnings in our sacred texts we have sabotaged our own well being; in an effort to be independent of God mankind thwarts the cosmic plan. But an awakening is coming: the long awaited dawn is nigh, but when the light shines forth, will we be ready? We mustn't be fooled by this present world in forfeiture of one inconceivably better; for when human existence strikes the higher octave the former state of being will be viewed with contempt! When will this paradigm begin? And is this "new consciousness" synonymous with "The Millennial Reign of Christ"?

Joseph Pitton de Tournefort (1656-1708) was originally destined for the church, but his interest in botany led him to become professor of botany at the Jardin des plantes in Paris, and to travel all over Europe and beyond in search of interesting specimens. He was chiefly interested in the classification of plants, but is now best remembered for the accounts he wrote of voyages undertaken for the purpose of scientific discovery. This illustrated two-volume work, published posthumously in French in 1717 and translated into English the following year, recounts a journey begun in 1700, around the eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea, visiting Crete and other Greek islands, Istanbul, Armenia and Georgia. Tournefort notes not only plants, but geographical features, antiquities, the people he encounters, and their way of life, agriculture and industry. Volume 1 begins with a biography of Tournefort, and ends with an account of Constantinople.

This unique phrase-by-phrase exposition reads the Lord's Prayer as Jesus' description of God. Our heavenly Father is the perfect parent beyond our dreams who loves, provides, forgives, and ultimately protects. Finding our parent, we discover who we really are and enter a kingdom without boundaries. The Prayer of Jesus is not a somber duty; it is the essence of the gospel's happy news. "If laughter is forbidden in heaven," said Martin Luther, "I don't want to go there."
