Tarot cards have long been a fascination for those interested in spiritual experimentation, and a horror for many church-goers. But where do the mysterious images on the Tarot cards come from? This book reveals that many of the Tarot symbols have their roots in what is perhaps the most unlikely place--the Bible. The authors go on to explore the links with religious phenomenology, folklore, Jungian analysis, and archetypes from the world of literary fantasy. They demonstrate how the symbols are expressions of the spiritual needs of people of all times and all places, and they investigate the swell of interest in the Tarot, particularly within the New Age movement.

Filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky’s insights into the Tarot as a spiritual path • Works with the original Marseille Tarot to reveal the roots of Western wisdom • Provides the key to the symbolic language of the Tarot’s “nomadic cathedral” • Transforms a simple divination tool into a vehicle for self-realization and healing Alejandro Jodorowsky’s profound study of the Tarot, which began in the early 1950s, reveals it to be far more than a simple divination device. The Tarot is first and foremost a powerful instrument of self-knowledge and a representation of the structure of the soul. The Way of Tarot shows that the entire deck is structured like a temple, or a mandala, which is both an image of the world and a representation of the divine. The authors use the sacred art of the original Marseille Tarot--created during a time of religious tolerance in the 11th century--to reconnect with the roots of the Tarot’s Western esoteric wisdom. They explain that the Tarot is a “nomadic cathedral” whose parts--the 78 cards or “arcana”--should always be viewed with an awareness of the whole structure. This understanding is essential to fully grasp the Tarot’s hermetic symbolism. The authors explore the secret associations behind the hierarchy of the cards and the correspondences between the suits and energies within human beings. Each description of the Major Arcana includes key word summaries, symbolic meanings, traditional interpretations, and a section where the card speaks for itself. Jodorowsky and Costa then take the art of reading the Tarot to a depth never before possible. Using their work with Tarology, a new psychological approach that uses the symbolism and optical language of the Tarot to create a mirror image of the personality, they offer a powerful tool for self-realization, creativity, and healing.

Have you ever looked at the mysterious symbols on the Tarot cards and wondered what they meant? Or perhaps you have read the Tarot for others for many years but still don't understand how to use them for meditation and spiritual development. Or perhaps you use the intense imagery of the Tarot for meditation, but don't think it is "appropriate" to use this mystical tool for readings. Well, now you can learn the meaning of the symbols for spiritual development and for giving great readings in Stephen Walter Sterling's Tarot Awareness. The Tarot is composed of two major sections, the illustrated cards that form the Major Arcana and the cards of the Minor Arcana which are like a deck of playing cards with an extra court card for each suit. Each card has a meaning for a reading. The meanings of the cards are given in the text. The Major Arcana cards also are about the spiritual development of your consciousness. As you go through the cards, from zero to twenty-one, you follow the progression of yours spirituality. The fifty-six cards of the Minor Arcana are associated with your development from the spiritual to the physical. In fact, they deal with the four levels of progression to manifestation, the spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical. Put this all together, and for the first time you have a book which integrates spiritual and practical, meditative, and divinatory. One of the great things about the Tarot is that it's symbolic. Since the unconscious works through symbols, it speaks to you. Just working with the Tarot helps you to evolve, especially when you understand the Tarot's spiritual truths. In order to work with the cards the book shares five different readings you can do. As an added bonus, the book also deals with the difficult subject of "proximity," relating the cards in a spread to each other as opposed to just their positions in the spread. This can enhance your readings on your quest for spirituality.

If you are aspiring to connect with the mysteries of our life on this planet or you are already a disciple in some school of spiritual attainment, this is a book which will illuminate your way. According to legend, the Kamasutra was created by the Indian god Shiva who, overwhelmed by the joys of sexual experience, wrote a servant a treatise on erotic art. Inspired by the original Kamasutra, this deck is meant to aid seekers in their own quest for enlightenment through the senses. Publisher Review: I feel I have to start this review by stating that this deck is filled with very explicit illustrations of couples involved in sexual relations. If that alone is a "deal breaker," you have no reason to continue with this review. Next, I'd like to look at the source text for this deck, the Kama Sutra. Many people talk of this book as having great spiritual value. They approach it as a key Tantric (a small part of Tantra involves spiritualized sexuality) text. Neither concept it true. It is far closer to what might be called a rule book for marriage. It is composed of seven sections, of which sections 3–6 are about how to get a wife, how a chief wife should act, how other wives should act and advice on how to become a courtesan. Section seven is about how to attract a partner and includes the closest thing to instructions on sexual magick found in the entire book. Section one, the introduction, introduces various Vedic spiritual concepts and may simply be slapped onto the book in order to give it some legitimacy. Indeed, at least one historian claims the entire book was a collection of other texts. The remaining section is the part of the book that is most famous. It includes numerous legalistic and dogmatic concepts on how to have sexual relations, some of which require a great deal of physical strength and agility. It also describes 64 types of sexual acts. I vividly remember getting a copy of this book when I was about 14 years old on a vacation in Palm Springs. I eagerly tried reading it and no matter how much I skipped, I couldn't help but find it stultifying, dated, and silly. That brings us to an overview of the art in this deck. As described in the deck attributes below, the Art School Vijai & Ram of Rajastan have done an absolutely magnificent job of producing sexually explicit modern art in the style and character of of 17th and 18th century Indian art (heavily influenced by Mughal-style art) often found in published editions of the Kama Sutra. You'll instantly recognize the style. . . read more.

The Tao in the Tarot weaves together the mysteries of the I-Ching and the Major Arcana of the Tarot. Part 1 reveals an underlying synthesis of ideas and a common source of inspiration between these two methods of divination, and shows how for more than two thousand years the traditions of each would have been used and debated by travellers along the Silk Route connecting Europe and Asia. In Part 2 we journey through the cards of the Major Arcana placed in a circle and connect them with selected hexagrams from the I Ching and in so doing we are led out of the circle into a spiral. Along the way we connect with other ancient traditions such as the grail legend, the pattern of numbers, pagan gods and goddesses and the early use of stone circles, to finally discover just how relevant these ancient symbols are to us in today's world. The author's own simple but evocative Tarot pictures accompany the text of each card, and the relevant I Ching hexagrams are fully explained with coloured diagrams. Essential reading for the serious student of either the Tarot or the I Ching.

Life can become complicated at times, necessitating a diversion from our difficulties. Jean Bakula found hers when she mastered the reading of Tarot cards. The Rider-Waite Tarot is fascinating because there is a card which illustrates each kind of circumstance found during life. The Major Arcana cards represent serious issues: family relationships, education, religion, love, strength, fear, addictions, sex, death, balance, health, personal growth, and redemption. The Minor Arcana cards depict everyday dealings: home life, work, money, hobbies, comfort issues, and the people we frequently encounter. Pathways Through Spirituality describes what Jean Bakula sees in the cards and paints vivid word pictures. The poetry for each card can be used to learn to read the Tarot, but each piece stands on its own as well. These pieces can assist readers in meditation on confusing experiences and decisions they face. Some believe the Tarot is only a fortune telling device, but it urges introspection and promotes honest reflections on our actions. This book can help readers view their problems and strengths more clearly, and help them uncover their deeper motivations and potentials. The answers to your questions are already there. All you need to do is trust your own intuition!
