ABOUT THE BOOK Breakups don’t have a one-size-fits-all solution. When you break up with someone, you are basically saying to the other person “I don’t like spending time with you anymore,” “I no longer find you attractive,” or “You are not worth the inconvenience this relationship is causing me.” So, chances are good a breakup will end with at least one person’s feelings hurt. Nobody will congratulate you on a job well done, but with some planning you can help things go more smoothly so that you and your soon-to-be-ex are able to contain your emotions, nobody is embarrassed or hurt, and the whole thing is over quickly. Use this guide to help you figure out and execute the best breakup plan for you. Formulating your plan is going to take some thought and preparation, but ultimately it will be worth it. MEET THE AUTHOR Deena Shanker is a writer living in San Francisco. After moving to the west coast from New York City in the fall, she is loving San Fran's beautiful weather, colorful architecture, and never-ending vegetarian food options. She loves visiting the beach with her dog, Barley, and eating cheese (also sometimes with Barley). She is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School and Barnard College. EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK Every relationship and every breakup is different. To create a solid, reliable breakup plan, you should consider yourself, the other person, and, of course, why you want to break up. We’ll start with you. What do you ultimately want to achieve? What is your goal? Do you want to make this less painful for you, or do you want to make this easier on the other person? Your answers to these questions will help you determine the best course of action. And be sure to consider the other person as well. Are you dating a verbal person? A loud person? An emotional person? Someone who will feel sad or someone who will be angry? Think about how the person will react when you express, as Nada Surf once so precisely put it, that you “prefer the company of others to [his/her] exclusive company.” If you expect a lot of tears or yelling, prepare yourself. Now you need to think about your specific relationship. How long have you been dating? Do your paths cross often? Do you know a lot of the same people? The more serious the relationship, the more explanation is expected and, honestly, owed. If you interact regularly (e.g., as coworkers or classmates), pay special attention to what you say to avoid embarrassment later. Knowing a lot of the same people is another reason to keep the filter on. If you don’t want something repeated, don’t say it. Thinking through these things will help you figure out the hardest part of a breakup: what you are going to say? See Step Two below for more. Buy a copy to keep reading!

A break up doesn't have to be just another sad love song. There are many books about heartbreak, dating, and bad relationships and they all seem to have the same cookie-cutter theme: girl meets guy, guy seems like Mr. Right, Mr. Right turns out to be a jerk, relationship over, all guys are jerks. It's the same tired, old canned topic over and over again. It's time to read something different. It's time to read a story with a breakthrough. Break-up to Breakthrough goes into the transformation, into the healing process. It shows you how you can bounce back, through the telling of one woman's heart wrenching story. Like the old saying goes "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade." Break-up to Breakthrough shows anyone how they can make lemonade after a bad relationship. Break-up to Breakthrough shows anyone how they can recover after the worst relationship. No matter how bad the relationship you can recover, you can survive, you can have a breakthrough.

From the creator and director of Transparent and Emmy nominated writer for Six Feet Under comes a hilarious and unforgettable memoir. When Jill Soloway was just thirteen, she and her best friend donned the tightest satin pants they could find, poufed up their hair and squeezed into Candies heels, then headed to downtown Chicago in search of their one-and-only true loves forever: the members of whichever rock band was touring through town. Never mind that both girls still had braces, coke-bottle-thick glasses and had only just bought their first bras...they were fabulous, they felt beautiful, they were tiny ladies in shiny pants. Now that Jill is all grown up and a successful writer and producer, she can look back on her tiny self and share her shiny tales with fondness, absurdity, and obsessive-compulsive attention to even the most embarrassing details. From the highly personal (conflating her own loss of virginity and the Kobe Bryant accusations), to the political (what she has in common with Monica and Chandra), to the outrageously Los Angelean (why women wear huge diamonds and what they must do to get them), Tiny Ladies in Shiny Pants is a genre-defying combination of personal essay and memoir, or a hilarious, unruly and unapologetic evaluation of society, religion, sex, love, and—best of all—Jill.

This book engages with ideas that are highly topical and relevant: nationalism, nationhood and national identity as well as the relationship of these to postcolonialism. However, it does so within the broad field of drama. Examining the debates around the relationship between culture and national identity, the book documents the contributions of actual dramatists and film-makers to the chronicling of an important historical moment. The book breaks down what have been traditional barriers between theatre, film and television studies, considering the very broad range of ways in which the creators of dramatic fictions are telling us stories about ourselves at a time when the idea of being 'British' is increasingly problematic. Much has been written on the 'break up' of Britain, but there has been very little to-date about the impact that this is having on drama in the thetre, on television and on film. A very wide range of material is discussed in the book, ranging from box office hits such as "The Full Monty" to community based theatre in Scotland and Wales.

In short, are you addicted to your phone? If so, How to Break Up with Your Phone is here to help. How to Break Up With Your Phone is a smart, practical and useful plan to help you conquer your mobile phone addiction in just 30 days - and take back your life in the process. Recent studies have shown that spending extended time on our phones affects our ability to form new memories, think deeply, focus and absorb information, and the hormones triggered every time we hear our phones buzz both add to our stress levels and are the hallmark signs of addiction. In How to Break Up with Your Phone, award-winning science journalist Catherine Price explores the effects that our constant connectivity is having on our brains, bodies, relationships, and society at large and asks, how much time do you really want to spend on your phone? Over the course of 30 days, Catherine will guide you through an easy-to-follow plan that enables you to identify your goals, priorities and bad habits, tidy your apps, prune your email, and take time away. Lastly, you will create a new, healthier relationship with your phone and establish habits and routines to ensure this new relationship sticks. You don't have to give up your phone forever; instead you will be more mindful not only of how you use your phone, but also about how you choose to spend the precious moments of your life.
