This book is concerned with bilingual thematic dictionaries (BTDs). The three chief aims of the research project are: 1) to identify the characteristic features of the bilingual thematic dictionary, 2) to gauge its usefulness, and 3) to make suggestions as to how it could be improved. Various approaches are adopted in order to reveal the nature of the BTD. The typological approach considers the lexicographic genres (bilingual, thematic, and pedagogical) which have been combined to create this hybrid reference work. Particular attention is paid to the BTD's immediate forerunner and closest lexicographic relative: the monolingual thematic learner's dictionary. Detailed textual analyses of contemporary thematic dictionaries identify the characteristic features of the macrostructure, microstructure, and other components from a structural perspective. In order to evaluate the usefulness of the BTD features identified, the textual analyses are supplemented by three pieces of user research involving a questionnaire (to elicit learners' opinions), a test (on the effectiveness of the access structure), and an experiment (to discover how a learner uses a BTD).

Our lives are supposed to be resplendent, radiant, and glorious. Instead, what most of us experience is a life filled with struggle, conflict, and illness. Relationshifting creates a bridge to a new life based upon Dr. Angela Longo’s more than forty years of clinical experience. Dr. Longo offers an overview of the “eight bottom lines,” which she defines as the eight major ways in which we block the flow of positive energy into our lives. She explains how to shift that energy to resplendent living by relationshifting through quantum resplendency—a quantum way of living. The Relationshifting workbook includes explanations and exercises using the following tools: •Heartwaving is an easy-to-use technique used to shift old, unproductive patterns to resplendency. •Bathwaves are Longo’s self-created energy patterns based upon her beliefs, attitudes, thoughts, habits, words, actions, values, and emotions. •Love Letters are messages she sends to herself to guide her to living resplendency. •Triunity shows her she is actually three beings in one—promoting understanding of her larger persona. •Eternalbeing indicates the larger, unique purpose of her life. •Muscle testing helps to assess her perceptions and patterns. •Shifting the Eight Bottom Lines, the eight judgments that keep her from changing her Bathwaves to living resplendency. Relationshifting demonstrates the fact that when you are living in the resplendent way, life is EEEZY—an eternal, emergent, entanglement as a zestful you.

Dictionaries make fascinating reading when they are seen in their historical, educational and linguistic context. Working from a modern cultural perspective, the author uses her own research and the research of others to tell the story of German language dictionaries, and in doing so throws light on the viewpoints of dictionary authors and users and on dictionaries' academic and social dimensions.

A fun, practical guide that reveals the essentials of good fiction and memoir writing by exposing the most common mistakes literary writers make. All great works of fiction and memoir are unique-but most bad novels, stories, and memoirs have a lot in common. From clunky dialogue to poorly sketchedout characters, sagging pacing to exaggerated prose, these beginners' mistakes drive any agent or editor to their stock rejection letter, telling the aspiring writer "Thanks, but this isn't for us," and leaving many to wonder what exactly it is that they're doing wrong. Veteran writing coach, developmental editor, and writing instructor Jessica Page Morrell will fill in the gaps in every rejection letter you've ever received. In Thanks, But This Isn't for Us, Morrell uses her years of experience to isolate the specific errors beginners make, including the pitfalls of unrealistic dialogue, failing to "show, not tell," and over-the-top plot twists. These are just a few of the problems that keep writers from breaking through with their work. Sympathetic and humane, but pulling no punches, Thanks, But This Isn't for Us shows writers precisely where they've gone wrong and how to get on the right track. In sixteen to-the-point chapters, with checklists, exercises, takeaway tips, and a glossary, Morrell helps readers transcend these mistakes so that they don't have to learn the hard way: with another rejection letter.
